March Green Initiatives

Hi world! Chris here. Just like in February, I kept up my attempt to live a little more eco-friendly in March and now I want to share it with you. There will be some links to different brands and stuff listed, but like I said in my LastObject review, this is not sponsored. I just like to make it easy to find things.

Now without further ado.

Week #1

So, I thought it was kind of funny that I got this card right after investing in some items from LastObject. Just in case you’re unaware, LastObject is a company that creates reusable versions of self care products that are usually thrown away directly after use. For example, I bought their LastTissue and LastSwab.

Because I already have a whole blog post on this concept, I’m not going to write much here. However, if you want to know more about it, check out my LastObject review here.

Week #2

This particular challenge took me by surprise because I didn’t actually know what the big deal with palm oil was until I looked it up. Apparently, when harvesting palm oil for beauty and health products, it can result in a lot of deforestation which, if you didn’t know, is not good.

There seems to be a lot of debate over whether or not it’s possible to actually collect palm oil sustainably. There’s a lot of negative repercussions to it, but the one company I found to have the most information on it is a non-profit called Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil.

Here is their website if you are interested in learning more!

Week #3

This is the challenge that I was most excited about in March. There are so many sustainable brands that I’ve been dying to try and this card gave me the perfect opportunity to do so. It was also helpful that my birthday is in March, so it was kind of like getting myself a present too.

That’s how I convinced myself not to feel bad about the cost at least. Because, unfortunately, a lot of sustainable brands do cost more than big time chain companies. However, that’s why I’m here to tell you if it’s worth it or not.

For my little splurge, I wanted to make sure I was getting something I would actually use and lately, I’ve been getting really into yoga, so I made a deal that if I did my yoga practice for a certain number of days, I’d get myself a workout outfit from pact.

Pact refers to themselves as Earth’s Favorite Clothing Company because their items are made with sustainable resources, they offset their carbon production, use less water in item production, and they are partnered with Fair Trade Certified Factories. Pretty cool, right?

But, how good are the actual clothes? In my opinion, they’re great.

I got a matching workout set which was just some biker shorts and a tank top. They both fit perfectly and are super comfortable. When I’m stretching around doing my workout, they don’t shift or get to tight in weird places. I love them.

Also, don’t worry, the plastic packaging biodegrades much faster than regular plastic. I had to look it up because when I saw the plastic bags, I got kind of mad that a eco-friendly company would be so wasteful. However, that wasn’t actually the case at all.

If you have the money to burn and want to feel good about what you buy, I would highly recommend pact. Link is included in the picture below if you want to check them out! And yes, that is the outfit I bought so that you can actually see it on someone and that someone does not have to be me lol.

Week #4

So this is something my family already does. They’ve done for as long as I can remember actually. Both of my parents like to dabble in gardening and they grow fruits and veggies and things so they like to keep a compost to help with that.

There’s not really any fun pictures to put with this because compost just looks like dirt when it starts to decay. So, instead, I’m going to leave you with a link for more information if you would also like to get into composting.

Here is the EPA website all about what to compost and how. Good luck!

Week #5

I’ve gone through so many metal straws that I’m almost inclined not to recommend using them to people. You see, whenever I get one of these babies out to use in a restaurant, I almost ALWAYS forget to grab it when I leave. In fact, I’ve done this so often, I’m down to one last straw.

If that seems like a problem you would also have, don’t trouble yourself getting a reusable straw. Just, don’t use straws at all. Most drinks don’t need them. I know sometimes you get things with a lid, so it’s important to have them, but otherwise, I think you’ll be fine vetoing straws altogether.

It would save money and save your peace of mind about leaving the thing behind.

However, if reusable straws are your kind of thing, I tip my hat to you. Respect.

In fact, if you read this post and decide to try any of the things listed, respect to you too. Even doing something small to help the planet is commendable. You have to start somewhere after all. Even just taking enough interest to read this post is a good effort. Good job, you.

If you happened to make it this far down, go ahead and leave me a like so that I know it. Wanna see how many other green fiends are out there. Hopefully you’ll all come back next week too. Until then, stay safe out there.
