Redhead Reviews: Books for Going Green

Hi world! Chris here. Today I want to merge to of my passions together: sustainability and reading. That’s right, today I’m talking about books that cover how to live your life a little more consciously. Enjoy!

Simply Living Well by Julia Watkins

This is a book I wanted the moment I saw it pop up on Pinterest. Something about the cover is just so appealing and comforting. I love outdoorsy/homey look it has. The contents also keep to that theme as well. Filled with recipes and friendly advice on how to run a home without breaking the bank or breaking the earth, this is a heavy read, but worth it in my opinion.

The Little Book of Cottagecore by Emily Kent

At it’s core, cottagecore isn’t necessarily an eco-friendly way to live one’s life. This aesthetic focuses more on creativity than traditional living, but this book helps to merge the two. It talks a lot about growing your own food, making DIY projects, and a bunch of other really fun and sustainable crafts. If you want to add a flair the pastoral to your life, this book is for you.

Live Green by Jen Chillingsworth

This book probably comes with the least amount of reading. It’s filled with incredibly cute artwork to accompany the fifty-two steps listed inside to turn one’s life a little more eco-friendly. If you’re interested in getting straight to the point and don’t want to be bogged down with personal anecdotes and flowery language, I would recommend this book.

Unlearn, Rewild by Miles Olson

Unlike the aforementioned books, this work focuses a lot on the natural world instead of keeping a home. Instead of learning to make soap for yourself, you’d learn how to find edible plants in the woods from this book. If you’re big into hiking or exploring, you don’t wanna miss this book.

All images are links to thriftbooks where you can buy them second hand. I recommend buying books used because it’s cheaper and thrifting is actually better for the environment because otherwise gently used items would become waste. Buying used allows for a second life!

Thanks for reading! If you’re still hungry for more, check out one of the books listed above. Until next week, stay safe out there!
