Hi world! Chris here. This is a post I’ve been planning for awhile. When the new year started, a whole new chapter of my life was also starting and I wanted to make some changes for the better. One of those changes was to start living more eco friendly.
Way back in my freshman year of college, I was a part of a club called the Plastic Ocean Project that was all about conservation and taking care of the planet. During one of the meetings, I learned about Plaine Products for the first time.
Plaine Products is a company that was created with the sole intent of reducing waste in households. On their website, you can order things like shampoo and conditioner as well as lotion or body wash. They send these items in recycled packaging and with a return shipping label. Why the shipping label? Let me explain.
Every Plaine Product comes in a reusable metal container rather than a plastic bottle that is supposed to just be thrown away when it’s empty. Instead, when you run out of one of your Plain Products, you ship the empty bottle back to them to be cleaned and refilled for prolonged use.
I remember learning about this and thinking it was so cool! However, as a freshman in college, I was broke. And these products can be really expensive (one bottle of conditioner is $30).
Now, as a working adult, I was finally in a place to give these products a try and decide if they were worth it or not. I’ve been using the shampoo and conditioner for over a month now and I think I’m ready to share the results.

I decided to order the travel sized options just because this was supposed to be a test and I didn’t want to commit to the full bottles yet. Somehow, they’ve still lasted me almost two months and they’re not even empty yet.
As far as quantity goes, they’re doing pretty well.
There are only two scents available for shampoo and conditioner which are citrus lavender or rosemary mint vanilla ( and also unscented). I hate things that aren’t food trying to smell like food, so I chose the citrus lavender option.
Let me tell you, this stuff smells great! It’s mostly the lavender that comes through, but there is a small kick of citrus. It’s not super strong so it won’t upset any sensitive noses either. I don’t think it lingers for very long which I actually found kind of disappointing. Once my hair is dry, it just smells normal again.
However, it looks pretty great. Even though my hair isn’t naturally straight, it doesn’t have a lot of volume on it’s own. Especially now that it’s growing out again. Luckily, these products have actually been changing that.
I read a couple reviews before buying them and someone said they leave the shampoo in their hair for about a minute before washing it out and that seems to get the best results. I decided to try that as well and it was absolutely right.
My hair has never had this much body before without me doing something to it. It’s also super soft which I love. Almost makes me want to start wearing it down instead of up.
Almost.

The picture above is of my hair after I let it dry naturally after using my Plaine Products. I haven’t done anything to it other than brush it and I think it looks pretty good given that fact (and I can be pretty particular about my hair).
But is having nice hair really worth spending $60 on shampoo and conditioner? Maybe for some people, but for me, no.
Is it worth the $10 I spent on the travel sized bottles? Yeah. That’s a way more reasonable price. Especially when it comes with being sustainable for the Earth. We only get one planet after all. We better treat her right.
If you’re interested in making a change in your life and being a little more eco friendly, I’ll link the Plaine Products website here! And if you decide to order the lotion, let me know how it is. I’m considering testing that out next!
Thanks for reading! I’ll be back next week with another Redhead Reviews. Until then, stay safe out there!
