February Green Initiatives

Hi world! Chris here. So about two Christmases ago, my mom gave me a packet of cards with small challenges to make one live a bit more eco friendly one week at a time. I tried to use them before, but would always end up forgetting to draw another one. This month, however, I decided that was going to end. Because this month, I decided to track my progress on here!

So allow me to share some of the easy ways I tried to live a little more green this February! Maybe it will even inspire others to do the same.

Week #1

So, it’s pretty funny that this card came up first because I was actually still working at the local library at the time. I certainly used that to my advantage and checked out several books from the shelf and from the online holds system that let us ship in books from other libraries if we didn’t have them. I highly recommend using that option if you’re ever in need of a certain book. It’s free and you’re helping to keep the library up and running!

Here I am chilling behind the desk. Good times (:

Week #2

This was probably my favorite challenge because I LOVE plants. I actually signed up for a subscription with Succulent Studios which is a great company in California that sends out two succulents a month for about 10 bucks.

The succulents are all in great condition and they don’t repeat the same plant for at least a year, so it allows you to hone a cool collection. I live on the other side of the county and they still arrive to my house perfectly healthy. I LOVE it! Here’s the link if you’re interested.

Here are all of my lovely plants. Every single one is a succulent from Succulent Studios except for the rosemary plant in the terracotta pot. I actually propagated that from a large rosemary plant my mother had. Her plant died this winter, but mine is thriving!

I wanted to add a close up picture here because this is my favorite succulent. When I got it, it was just one small sprig but it’s really doing well now, growing it’s own little sprigs I could propagate. Plus, it’s in a bulbasaur pot and I’m obsessed with Pokémon.

Week #3

I absolutely love that I drew this card because this is already something I do with one of my friends. She collects books like crazy and loves to pass them around so other people can read them. Thanks to her, I’ve really branched out from my typical genres and gotten to read things I never would have picked up before.

Thanks Sydney!

Extra thanks to my boyfriend for taking this fun picture 🙂

Week #4

Sadly, this last card isn’t exactly one I can take any pictures of. Empty outlets just aren’t that interesting to look at. However, it’s still an important challenge nonetheless and probably one I’ve had the most trouble with.

I’m very used to just leaving my chargers plugged into the wall even if they aren’t connected to the device anymore. Now, I’m trying to get better about not doing that. Any tips and tricks for remembering to unplug stuff? Leave a comment if you think of some!

If you’ve made it this far in the post, thank you! I hope you’re having a wonderful day and will talk to you again next week. Until then, stay safe out there!
