Christmas Craft Competition

Hi world! Chris here. This week continues my attempt at making things that are somehow related to the theme of Christmas! Before we dive in, I wanna let you guys know that there will be no post next week because I am going to be out of town for the holiday and the house we’re going to has no internet. Hopefully this post will be entertaining enough to make up for the time off. At the least, it sure was entertaining to make!

I once again managed to convince my dear friend Mick to come over to my house and make a guest appearance on Here, There, and Back Again. This time, she wasn’t helping me bake but was actually working against me in a Christmas Craft Competition!

I scoured my faithful Pinterest boards for relatively easy looking crafts and then attacked the local Dollar Stores for the materials because ya girl has no talent for art AND no money. That’s probably why so many of these didn’t turn out quite like they were supposed to. But the fails are supposed to be half the fun, right?

We certainly had our fair share as we accidentally broke my mom’s hot glue gun when the glue somehow stopped coming out the front of the gun and instead started oozing out the back where it hardened and destroyed the thing. It was a bad start, but we made a quick trip to buy a new one and then we were off!

Christmas Trees

The Model: Very classy, elegantly painted Christmas trees made of cut-up plastic spoons.

Our Renditions: Stubby, tree shaped bushes based off of party hats because I couldn’t find styrofoam to glue the spoons to!

Christmas Signs

The Model: A cute rustic sign to celebrate the feelings of Christmas.

Our Renditions: Pipe cleaners and bows make words!

Snow Globes

Before I get into the final products for this craft, I have to try and explain how hard this was. We didn’t have the glycerin that the instructions called for, but we read that you can use vegetable oil as a substitute so we tried that. We went through several experiments that resulted in things like this:

And this:

Poor Hedwig 😦

My parents are still finding glitter in the kitchen from this mess and it’s been almost a week since we made any of these. This was undoubtedly the hardest craft we tried to make. However, trial and error helped us end up with something that at least resembled the model of inspiration.

The Model: Super cute Christmas themed glitter globe.

Our Renditions: Strange yellow fishbowls with entrapped movie characters!

Clearly they aren’t perfect, but they are a huge improvement from what we started with! They also happen to be the only craft that Mick and I both agreed that mine had turned out better than hers. Of course, Mick being the sweet person she is, argued that my other projects were just as good as hers, but that’s really just not true. Despite my (kind of) successful snow globe, I still couldn’t win overall.

Winner:

Mick!

We were supposed to make another craft that would end up looking like a Santa wreath and the winner was going to get to keep that one. However, we ran out of time, so now the winner just gets the honor of having not failed. If you want to help make that extra special, leave a comment telling Mick how awesome she is! I bet that she could’ve made even better models than the original ones if I had given her the proper materials to work with!

The same goes to anyone else that wants to try these fun Christmas crafts! Each model picture is linked to the original website that lists the directions, so just click on them if you’re interested. Let me know how they turn out. We might need to crown a new Christmas Craft Winner!

Unfortunately, we won’t be able to do that until next year because, like I said, I won’t be uploading anything next week. In the time off, I hope you all have an incredibly amazing Christmas with your friends and family and everyone you love. Don’t forget to send a prayer to Jesus for his birthday too!

I will see you all in two weeks, but until then, stay merry out there!
