Traveling with Music

Hi world! Chris here. This week’s post is going to be pretty relaxed because I’m trying to get ready for a really big trip coming up tomorrow! I’m flying to El Paso, Texas to visit my brother, Jacob, before he officially flies overseas for deployment. I’ve never been to Texas, so I am super excited about it.

This could potentially affect next week’s post because I might not have time to write it all out and place pictures by Monday, but I will get it done as soon as I can. If you don’t already follow me on social media (mainly Instagram), you should really start now. I already know that I’m going to be over posting about the trip, so that’s a great way for you to stay updated and get firsthand looks at what’s coming in the blog post!

Because I’ll be missing quite a few classes for this trip, I’ve had to spend most of this past week getting ahead of my work so that my grades aren’t affected. I haven’t had a whole lot of time to do much besides getting ready to leave. And part of that getting ready means making a boppin’ playlist to travel by.

I’ve seen several blog posts about music playlists, so I decided to add another one to the mix. I have a very diverse music preference, so there is something here for almost everyone. It’s definitely worth checking to see if there’s anything you might want to add to your Spotify account.

Indie/Folk

I always lump these two genres together because, usually, if I feel like listening to one, I feel like listening to the other. These are some of my favorite genres purely because a lot of the songs seem to be written for traveling. They’re my go to songs for taking a trip. Even if I’m just driving the never ending trip to/from Wilmington.

  • Sleep on the Floor- The Lumineers
  • Angela- The Lumineers
  • Rivers and Roads- The Head and the Heart
  • Home- Gabrielle Aplin
  • Take Me Away- Gabrielle Aplin
  • North Carolina- Little Chief
  • Life in the City- The Lumineers
  • Ends of the Earth- Lord Huron
  • State Lines- Novo Amor
  • Nobody Knows- The Lumineers
  • Holdin’ Out- The Lumineers
  • We’re Going Home- Vance Joy
  • Someone New- Hozier
  • Ready to Question- Gabrielle Aplin

Classic Rock

Classic rock might be my actual favorite genre of music. To me, it’s the perfect road trip music. I’m pretty sure that’s because of Supernatural, but I don’t really care. It certainly keeps me from falling asleep on long drives.

  • Seven Wonders- Fleetwood Mac
  • Carry on Wayward Son- Kansas
  • Faithfully- Journey
  • Free Bird- Lynyrd Skynyrd
  • Highway to Hell- AC/DC
  • Wanted Dead or Alive- Bon Jovi
  • Wheel in the Sky- Journey
  • Here I Go Again- Whitesnake
  • Nothin’ but a Good Time- Poison
  • Go Your Own Way- Fleetwood Mac
  • Gypsy- Fleetwood Mac
  • Take it Easy- Eagles
  • Jet Airliner- Steve Miller Band

Country

Country is no longer one of my favorite genres, but there are a few songs that I love to listen to. They make me think of driving through the country with the windows down and no real destination in mind. I don’t think anything suites a road trip better than that.

  • Lookin’ for a Good Time- Lady Antebellum
  • Gentle on My Mind- Glen Campbell
  • Wide Open Spaces- Dixie Chicks
  • My Church- Maren Morris
  • Sway- Danielle Bradbery
  • Universal Sound- Tyler Childers
  • Should’ve Been a Cowboy- Toby Keith
  • Beer for My Horses- Toby Keith
  • Comin’ to Your City- Big and Rich
  • Callin’ Baton Rouge- Garth Brooks
  • Cowboys Like Us- George Strait
  • You’re the Reason God Made Oklahoma-David Frizzell, Shelly West
  • Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man- Conway Twitty, Loretta Lynn

Oldies but Goodies

Being the youngest in my family meant that I was exposed to a lot of old things like old movies, old TV shows, old jokes, etc. I think my favorite part of that was being raised on old music. I’m sure some of these (basically all of them) can technically be called classic rock, but I just don’t associate them with classic rock in my head, so I separated them.

  • Vienna- Billy Joel
  • You Make My Dreams- Daryl Hall & John Oates
  • Mr. Tambourine Man- Bob Dylan
  • Don’t Stop Me Now- Queen
  • I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)- The Proclaimers
  • Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves- Cher
  • Movin’ Out- Billy Joel
  • My Life- Billy Joel
  • (I’ve Had) The Time of My Life- Bill Medley, Jennifer Warnes
  • Kokomo- The Beach Boys
  • Good Vibrations- The Beach Boys
  • Wake Me Up Before You Go- Wham!
  • Leaving, On a Jet Plane- John Denver

Pop-ish

I say ‘ish’ because some of these aren’t necessarily pop songs, but that’s just what I listen to them with. They’re even better to listen to when you’re on the go!

  • King of the Clouds- Panic! at the Disco
  • Try Everything- Shakira
  • 30,000 Feet- Ben Rector
  • Young Blood- Acoustic- Noah Kahan
  • LA Devotee- Panic! at the Disco
  • Anything Could Happen- Ellie Goulding
  • Cool- Jonas Brother
  • Pumpin’ Blood- NONONO
  • Vertigo- Khalid
  • Location- Khalid
  • March: Hills to Climb- Tim Myers
  • It’s Time- Imagine Dragons
  • Ava- Famy
  • Catch the Wind- High Highs
  • No Rest for the Wicked- Cage the Elephant

I know some people can be pretty die-hard about their music preferences, so I’m curious what you all think about mine. Do you agree with my choices? What would you add? What would you take out? What’s your go-to travel song?

Let me know in the comments below! Or you can DM me on social media, or text me if you have my number. I’m always looking for new songs to listen to!

Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram (and follow the blog if you haven’t already) to stay updated on the Texas trip! The stats have been growing pretty steadily, so I wanna keep that up. I’ll try to get next week’s post out on time, but we shall see. Until then, stay safe out there!
